Reply:Maggie, I have never heard that term for it before but after checking out several sites, I would agree that it is a left handed Swastika in an upright position. It has been commonly used as a sigil of protection and banishment of disruptive powers and entities. Reversed, (as in the Nazi symbol) but still upright, it was a symbol of empowerment and added strength to that upon which it was placed. Turned 45 degrees, it became the symbol of the most despicable period and administration of the German Government to ever exist. For that reason, MOST Witches and mages will NOT use it, as it is associated with the German Third Reich. Very sad indeed that a thoroughly morally bankrupt bunch of people has changed what USED to be considered a symbol for GOOD into something perceived as being totally evil. Thank you SO very much, Adolf.

Oops, I failed to answer the question. Other terms for it are the solar cross of protection/banishment, swastika, and harvest cross (due to it's resemblance to the bent stalks of grain after harvesting).

Brightest Blessings,

Cross

It originated as a symbol of ancient man in Africa. The diminutive people we classify under the term Pygmy.
