Why is Luke the least common name of the four gospel names?

A lot of people have the names John, Mathew and Mark but very few Lukes. The Star War film in the 70's resulted in a small surge of kids being named Luke, but prior to that the only time you heard the name Luke was the bad guys in cowboy western films and tv series. Why is this so?

Why is Luke the least common name of the four gospel names?
Although the mention of Luke's name is the lesser, his Work of the Bible is the greater in Chapters
Reply:its only what you notice. I find there are far to many Marys around but very few Miriam's Luke was not one of the disciples maybe that was why its not such a common christian name.

My son Joseph had a good Friend Luke and Stephens best friend was James all bible names.
Reply:not sure it does sound like a harder name like kurt, kole, klell, it has that K sounds maybe thats why people didnt use it so much...I think it's a cool name
Reply:I know many people named Luke. Perhaps it is just in your area.
Reply:i'd say it was quite a popular name
Reply:I'd be far more worried about naming my kid Luke and having him whine about Tashi station...
