Explain one advantage to scientific naming over common names.?

Common names very with location. For instance, there are many common names for the Cougar; such as Mountain Lion, Painter, Catamount, Mountain Screamer, Panther, and the Puma. Those are just the most common ones *in English*, there are others in Spanish, Portugese, French, Tupi, Quechua.. you get the idea. Also, if you say "panther", are you talking about the Puma, Leopard, or Jaguar? Panther is commonly used to describe all three cats.

However, you can talk to anyone familiar with scientific names around the world they will likely understand "Puma concolor" and instantly know what animal your talking about.

Explain one advantage to scientific naming over common names.?
It is internationally recognised.

That is that it doesnt matter what country you are in if somebody talks about Apodemus sylvaticus for example you know they are talking about the wood mouse.
Reply:Scientific naming is based, typically, on latin. As such, the scientific name can help researchers who use a foreign language speak to others about the correct organism.
Reply:Everyone knows EXACTLY what organism you are talking about, since the same organism can have a different name in different places.
