Sebastian:

Stella:

how common would you say they are and what do you think of them? i'm more curious to know how many young people you know with these names.

How common would you say these names are today?
According to social security, last year Stella was # 241 in popularity and Sebastian was #76 in the United States.

That means that they are not too popular, but not too rare, in my opinion. However, both seem to be on their way up the charts. Check it out:

I love both of those names...

remember though, just cause it is low in the numbers doesn't mean that they will be low in your neighborhood. Check your state:

Good luck finding a unique and wonderful name!

ps

you can actually see how many children have this name in your state and in the whole country on this website!!
Reply:Sebastian common.

Stella common almost as bad as Mildred. I would not name a dog either.
Reply:Sebastian: I've actually never met a person with this name.

Stella: I've only met 2 girls called Stella under 10. Whenever I hear this name I think of that scene in 'A Street Car Named Desire' where Marlon Brando gets down on his knees and screams "Steeeeeeellaaaaaaa"!!!!!!!
Reply:I know no one with these names, nor any children. I'm a teacher, and haven't run across either of them as students - not only those I've taught, but of the whole school population.

I like Sebastian. Stella, I'm not so sure of.
Reply:Sebastian? lol...sounds like a nobleman from the 1700's. very classic and kinda dark. stella sounds cool.
Reply:my friend Ben has a baby boy named Sebastian
Reply:I know one Sebastian. He's nicknamed Ian, though, so make that one half Sebastian. :)

At present, I don't know any Stellas.

I think it quite likely that Stella will become *very* popular, just like Emma and Hannah. It has the same slightly antique, feminine feel, but is still a simple name.

I'm less sure about Sebastian. The trend in recent years has been for all of these 2-syllable names, from classics like Brendan to brand new names like Draven.
Reply:stella we have a little girl at the day care with that name, and sebastian well my cousin is sebastiano
Reply:I have one friend named Stella and she is in her late 30's. Sebastian, I have not heard in a person. Just my friends dog:) Cute name though.
Reply:None...I do not know anyone at all with those names....
Reply:if you live in the US here is a useful website you can see how a name ranked in the past.

Reply:i dont hear either name for kids.. usually old people

and i dont like either of them

sebastian reminds me of the crab from the litle mermaid or an eclectic old guy

stella reminds me of a"trailerpark" middle aged lady that lives in the south
Reply:My nephew was going to be named Sebastian Alexander. His mother chose the name Triston Alexander instead. He is 10. I know of a guy who is 23, though, with that name. He is from Germany. Other than that, I don't know anyone named Sebastian or Stella.

Sebastian was #76 in 2006 and Stella was #241 in 2006.

Sebastian was #189 in 1997; Stella didn't make top 1000.

Sebastian was #195 in 1996; Stella didn't make it again.
