Classic names like Ethel, Enid, Ernie, Bertha, Harold etc. have a rather nice ring to them. Do you have any favourites from days of yore?
Could you imagine cuddling little baby Edna?
Do you think we should bring back some of the older names in to common use?
I'm not a fan of the ones you listed...my guilty pleasure name is Mavis.
Charlotte, Isla, Evelyn, Eloise, Francis, Eleanor, Flora, Ruby, Hazel, Louise, Natalie, Norah, Pearl, Reva, Rosalie, Vivienne, and Vada all are really cute old fasion names!
Reply:Hmmm, someday they will probably become more common!
Maybe Willa? Im looking at lists of old fashioned names to see which ones I like.
Esme, Edward, and Carlisle (very old names) are probably getting more popular because twilight.
Is Delilah old? Cuz if it is I can predict it becoming more popular!
Louise isn't very uncommon now, but it is old fashioned so I can see that one coming back too.I think its a simple and pretty name.
Mabel! I LOVE THAT NAME!!
I think Agnes might be coming back. I sorta like that name. Maybe Daphne too.
Reply:My girl's name is very old fashioned! She is supposed to be born in April, and her name is Eleanor Yvonne. Both were more popular in the 20s and 30s. Eleanor has actually gotten a *tiny* bit more popular. Imagine my horror when the other day in Walmart hubby and I were updating our baby registry and we saw a big redneck woman with a FRESH tattoo of our little girl's name-- ELEANOR. LOL- I looked at my husband and said, "Should we change it?!?" LOL.
Reply:I think some old names are nice and some are awkward. For the sake of the child being named, you really should think about a number of things. Will it be embarrassing? Will it be too hard for everyone to spell? Will people be able to pronounce it? Will it get the child teased? Will their initials spell out something undesirable (Priscilla Ingrid Golden, for example)? You know if there's a reason for kids to make fun of others, they will.
;o)
Reply:Adelle seems "old-timey" to me, but is still kind of pretty. I looked it up, and some other pretty names that were popular a long time ago that I like are: Addison (I thought this was modern!) Adelaide, Adeline, Brooke, Elodie and the list goes on and on.
Some I don't like: Clorris, Dagny, Egberta,
Reply:Those are good names but they weren't very timeless as they haven't been used very much.
I've always like Ethel and Enid.
Other names I like are:
Marjorie
Beryl
Cheryl
Millicent
Eleanor
Dorothy
Gwendolyn
Doris
Marguerite
Arthur
Raymond
Theodore
Eugene
Lester
Russell
Stanley
Chester
Reply:Older names are trendy
Emily, Emma, Grace, Adaline, Genevieve, Jasper, Wyatt, Henry are all in the top 1000, some in the top 100 and some in the top 5
Reply:no i coudn't. Some are nice, but others not so much. I think some family names are nice, but other nah.
Just think about when they are teenagers and they are embarassed about their name. I was mortified in High school of my middle name Helen.
Reply:What goes around, comes around. At some point in time to the generation that is far enough removed from the old names will discover those names among other things and think they have come up with something Totally New. You can count on it happening.
Reply:Yes, some of the old fashioned names are nice. I like the name Edna, it was my mother's name. Emily was an old name and is popular now. How about Samuel, Alice, Oliver, Marjorie or Gemma?
Reply:Those names in specific are macabre sounding.
Older names such as Ava, Lestat, and Penne, those I support.
Haha, I don't think we are talking about the same thing.
Reply:Classic names are coming back. But, sorry, i just don't care for any of the ones you suggested.
i like
Evelyn
Audrey
Eloise
Adeline
Louisa
Rosalind
Genevieve
Violet
Vivienne
Reply:Personally, I don't like those names. To me, the older the name the weirder it sounds. Although I am only 18 so it's not like I grew up with any Edna's.
Reply:I think all the older names are sooo ugly and plain. Newer names are cooler.
Reply:those names are cute and what about-daniel,cora,nora or rosa, jacob, daisy and thomas.
Reply:When I was in high school (2001) there was a boy named Harold and he went by Hal. Some older names are good though, like Charlotte
Reply:I dont like them much myself. If you were a child during the time that they were in use, maybe you simply like how they remind you of earlier times.
Reply:I think they are all ugly and couldnt picture naming a beautiful baby Edna...
