What are the common names of aldehydes and ketones?

formaldehyde (IUPAC name Methanal: used for embalming) and acetone (IUPAC name Propanone: used as polar aprotic solvent).

What are the common names of aldehydes and ketones?
formaldehyde, acetaldeyde, propionaldehyde, and butryaldehyde are the common names for aldehydes with 1, 2 , 3 and 4 carbons respectively.





As for ketones, the simplest ketone is acetone (dimethyl ketone or propanone). Another common one is MEKT for methyl ethyl ketone (or butanone).
