Do you lean towards common or unusual names?

When naming your children or names that you like, do they tend to be more common names or do you prefer unusual names?

What are some of the names you like?

Do you lean towards common or unusual names?
i prefer classic, timeless names.....but i wouldn't call them "common." for example, i think that the name sebastian is classically beautiful but it's not like everyone is rushing to name their child sebastian.

names that stand the test of time are classy....i hate names that scream, "my mommy tried too hard."
Reply:I tend to lean towards more classic, yet still uncommon names for both genders. With girls, I like names like Alice, Hazel, Estella, Violet, and Elspeth.

I tend to love names people consider “feminine” on my boys such as Finley, Rowan, Aubrey, and Sage. Though they are completely masculine names in origin, I’ve seen them labeled as “girl’s names” around. More recently though, I’ve taken to Biblical names for my boys. Elijah, Jonah, and Matthew are quickly becoming my favorites.
Reply:I just lean towards names that I like. Some are common and some are unusual. I hate misspellings of names like flipping Emmaleigh or crap like that when the original proper spelling is Emily, I love the proper spellings of names. and I hate unisex names. So in my eyes Jordan, Riley and Rory are all boys names because they started out as boys names. I will never see them as girl names because they aren't.
Reply:I like some common names, but I prefer unusual names. I don't like totally wacky names that people wouldn't be able to pronounce, but I also don't want my child to walk into kindergarten and have three other children with the same name...I think when the time comes I'll use a semi-unusal name and a more popular name as a middle name...
Reply:Unusual, definitely.

If I like a name, and I start to hear other people talk about it in real life, then I tend to not like it as much anymore. It loses some of it's appeal. It's not so much that I hate common names it's that I like names that give me a certain feel. And usually that feel is somewhat artsy and different.

some of my faves:

Kerensa

Dahlia

Evangeline

Saoirse

Isla

Jonas

Ezra

Abram

Saul

Thaddeus
Reply:Unusual for everywhere else but traditional where we live (Norway, but we're immigrants from the US and the UK). We will probably use Alma, Amalia or Solveig (SOUL vay) for a girl and Rune (RUE neh), Haakon (Hawk for short), Leon or Audun for a boy.

We figure with our last names (a double-barrel surname that is half Scottish, half Croatian, and completely unpronounceable to Norwegians), they will have a hard enough time here. The names also need to make sense to our English-speaking families.
Reply:I like both, but probably unusual more so. I do like traditional names, but I like to use them on the 'wrong' gender :)

Some of my fav. ideas for boy names right now for example are: Cambria, Eden and Nova as less usual names. But I also like Ashley, Chelsea, Claire and Summer too.

For girls, I like: Roman, Paris and Hero. I also like August, Dylan and Blake too.

Reply:unusual since my hubby is foreign. I look at American names and his country's names. My son has an Eastern European name. To Americans it sounds unique though. I don't limit myself to just American names such as Matthew or Grayson. My baby name list is very long! LOL.

Ex, I like the baby name Dmitri for a boy and Violet for a girl. My son's name is Sergei. We named him after my hubby's grandfather.
Reply:I do! When I was in school there were about 3 Andrews, 5 Sarahs, 8 Amandas, 7 Mikes, etc.

I want my children to have a more unique name, but not one's that considered "weird"...

Here's my list:

Ellia

Jaelle

Taelah

Raine

Irelyn

Raelle

Aurelia

Reply:the names i like are common in my community because i live in a spanish community

so its common to me, not to other people that dont live near me

like my grandmother is from massachusetts and finds the name Diego ugly and abnormal, but i find the names she says to be uncommon.
Reply:Unusual. I think they're prettier, and will make your child stand out way more in a classroom full or Sarahs, Emilys, and Matthews. But, i prefer common names as middle names sometimes. But, if youre gonna name your baby, "Pilot Inspektor", or "Tu Marrow." then stick to Sarah. haha.
Reply:I would say my preference is in between different and plain. It depends on how unsual the name is. For example, if i were to have a boy I like the name

Jebediah, Jacob, Connor or Wyatt.

Girls, Isabelle "Bella", Kayleigh, Ryleigh. I also know someone who is naming hers Kaydence, I hadnt heard of it before but I like it!
Reply:Personally i like traditional names like, Alexandra, Rose, Lilian, Nathaniel, John, Ryan etc. Yet i think its nice when you mix old and new like Rose Sienna or Sheldon John. But i do find it stupid and cruel if you name your child something like 'Dakapakhi'.
Reply:I have a tendency to like classic old fahsioned names like: Alexander, Nathaniel, Wesley, Amelia, Elizabeth, Hannah, Annabelle ect. but i like a couple odd ones like Winter and Logan for a girl
Reply:I tend to like 'unusual' names better but I also love a lot of common names, our twins are named Emmett Faber and Elena Larkin, other names we liked were Jasper Blair, Lola Elizabeth, Amberlyn Shirley and Ryland Dexter
Reply:I like the less common but not ghetto names. I prefer names that are not made by scrambling a whole bunch of letters and apostrophes. Middle names are always used to honor family members.
Reply:Common, beautiful, traditional, classic names are my preference.

Elizabeth

Kathleen

Katherine

Claire

Annabeth

Mirabelle

Christine

Caroline

John

Craig

William

Edward

Christopher
Reply:I like classic names like Leo or Lucian which are uncommon today

I also like Irish names like Rory, Liam, Eamon, Brigit, and Maureen
Reply:Neither. I prefer the classics, which nowadays are VERY uncommon.
Reply:Both. I named my son Matthew Daniel, but I was going to name him Cordelia Mae if he was a girl. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy, but I loved it.
Reply:Common i do not like some of the weird unusal names .
Reply:I prefer names that are uncommon but not weird...
Reply:well, i seem to like a mix of both but im too young for kids so +_+
