Common names?

Who else does not like common names like

Hannah

Grace

Isabella

I am sorry but these names are sooo common..I wonder why people use them so much....Think of something else people!!!

Common names?
I am all for unique names--as long as they aren't TOO unique :-)

Take it from someone who grew up with a VERY common name. There were 3 other girls in my class with my name, not to mention the other dozen or so girls in school with my name.

It's not fun for your parents to call out your name and have 5 other girls turn around either.
Reply:I love the names Isabella and Hannah but I do not like Grace. I named my daughter Mariah Yazmin
Reply:i don't know maybe it's because people just love that name like me if I ever have a Daughter I plan naming her Destiny Hope.
Reply:how about sloane

or abigail
Reply:What about Marilee (mar-u-lee) i think that's how you pronounce it. lol.
Reply:actually i love the name Isabella. but here are some more common names:

Erica, Emily, Amber, Ashley, Nicole, Laci, Casey, Kristen, Lisa, Alisa, Jessica, and many others.
Reply:I agree but i really like izabelle, goodluck
Reply:I suppose everyone is affected by his or her own name. I grew up with an uncommon name, spelled strangely. Although I never hated my name, I was constantly frustrated when I had to spell it for people and explain why my parents chose it. There was the added disappointment of never being able to find anything in stores with my name on it, like stickers, pens, bicycle license plates, coffee mugs, etc. As a child that was pretty crushing. Therefore, I gave my kids more common names. They, in turn, will probably retaliate by giving their kids weird, outlandish names.
Reply:Personally I know limited people with those names and don't think they are personally very common but another name or two that I hear all the time is Kelsey, Ashley, and Emily and Shelby. Another name that is commonly used is Elizabeth but its a really pretty name.
Reply:alyssa and melissa, audra, miranda, celina, taylor, renee, alex, adrian, kiely (keely), alyson, winter, jade-renee, kaitlyn, cassy, cassidy. that's all i can think of rite now. lol.
Reply:yeah they r common my nick name is isabella and my sister name is hannah and my mom nick name is grace like boys name hahahahaha
Reply:I think Grace is okay but other then that i like names like Shaniqua, Aquanetta, Logan, and Koda. Somewhat unique but not always.
Reply:I agree- I don't like common names either. I especially don't like Isabella.
Reply:i just like names that appeal to my personal taste .. be they common or unique .. i don't judge on that
Reply:i feel the same way...my children will have original, or at least uncommon names. i hated growing up with 3 other people who had my same name in my class.
Reply:i believe in unique names 2 wish other people did
Reply:I actually think those are very pretty names, they became so common because people liked them so much
Reply:I like them but I would never use them! I love unusual and unique names and for people who frown on them need to think because the names they like were once uncommon too.

I have a niece with a common name (not extremely common but common) and people always asks her how to spell it. Her name is Jasmine and it is in the top 50 names i believe. Back to my point. People are always saying people with unique names always have to tell people how to spell it but people with common names have to do the same sometimes.

Reply:I prefer common names over crazy names that aren't spelled the way they should be pronounced. It's not like people who name their kids Hannah know 100 other people with that name so who cares?
Reply:I totally agree with you. Some names are so overused! Where I live, the names Ashley, Jennifer, Isabella, Haley, Amber, Jessica, and Nicole are very very common.
Reply:The trend now does seem to be going back to traditional names. There were two other Kristy's in my class at school, and growing up, into my early twenties even, I was determined to give my children unique names (I think there was Astraea, or Saraea (I went back and forth between these two), Nyree, Sarada, I can't really remember the rest). But when it came to actually naming my children, I felt drawn towards classic names, and now I have an Isabel and a Lily. And it just so happens that these names have become popular again. I wish they weren't so popular, but I'm not going to avoid using a name I like just because it's popular.

Some of the unique names I've seen are absolutely hideous. Some of them kind of seem like they've been created just to be unique, without any thought to how they actually sound, or to the spelling troubles they'll have to deal with. But, to each their own.
Reply:who cares what you think. PARENTS are the ones who name their kids, NOT you. out of those 3 names i only know 1 person with one of them which is Isabella. i dont think they are that common.
Reply:Because if no one used them, we'd have no popular common names!
Reply:Isabella
Reply:I do like names that were common with previous generations, but not the ones that every other kid on the playground has. Unfortunately, many of those names are coming back into "style."
Reply:To me Grace sounds like an old woman and reminds me of the song "amazing grace". I personally do not like hannah but i do like Isabella.

I don't like common/plain names either but some are okay to keep it going in the family like a middle name that has been passed down so much over the years to dif' family members.
Reply:Tingting, it's my name
Reply:I DONT KNOW IT IS STUPID I IKE MY NAME HARDLY ANY ONE HAS IT MY NAME IS TEIRRA I AM SO HAPPY MY NAME IS NOT COMMON MOST PPL DO IT BECAUSE THERE FRIENDS KIDS NAME IS IT OR FAMILY MEMBER OR THEY NEEDED A NAME BAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I am not a fan of names on either side...crazy or common.
Reply:What is so wrong with common names. The point of naming your child is not to make sure they will be the only person in their class with that name and spelling. The point is to find a name that will suite them from childhood to adulthood. If Hannah or Grace is the name a parent thinks will suite their child then they should name their baby that. I choose Hayley for my daughter who is 9 and once she was born I started hearing it all over the place as with my son Caden. The thing about names is that you can think you are naming your child an original name but so did every other parent who named their child the same you did. All common names were at one point Unique and original. At least all the Hannah and Grace and Isabella's wont be having the problem of people misspelling their names!

Dont get me wrong.. I love unique names but I also dont think that common names are as big of a deal that you make them out to be.
