What are some common names in ESPECIALLY Guatemala?

Guatemalans traditionally use Catholic names for their children, much the same as any other Spanish-speaking country. The Protestant sects have a wide following in Guatemala now, so do not be surprised if you see such non-traditional names like Edwin, Lesbia, James or Dalia. It all depends on who you are running with down there.

Otherwise, get used to Jose, Maria and Carlos and Olga.

Reply:I have now been living here, in Guatemala, for three months. For females, if their name is not Maria, their middle name is, or they have a sister named Maria. If you forget their name, you can usually get away with calling them 'Maria' because they think you have them mixed up with someone else! LOL!!!
Reply:It depends on the generation, but I agree that many women have the name María and many men have the name Jose. But other really common names are, for women: Andrea, Gabriela, Lucía. For men: Diego, Sebastián
