Why are these last names so common in Mexican people?

Lopez, Martinez, Hernandez, Sanchez, Perez, Fernandez, Garcia. Why are these last names so common in Mexican people? I understand that the Spanish invaded Mexico, but why are these last names so common?

The majority of Spanish Conquistadors and Settlers came from the southern region of Spain known as Andalusia where those names were most common back in the 15th century. Also, as another answerer mentioned, all cultures have their own versions of Smith and Jones and other names that are very common in their respective countries.

Reply:who knows!!! maybe because the hispanization of the indians they had to take spanish names, and most of them are names of people (first names) say like Fernandez : Son of Fernando , Martinez (son of martin). i dont know really that is what i think.

Reply:i live in a community with lots of mexicans and the truth is those names are just as common as other ones you probably never heard of. you just hear about them alot more because...... i dont know why =/
