What are the other common names for Cheetah?
I think they are called spotted cats.
Reply:For any biology class you only need two names. The correct common name and the correct scientific name. Common name for the animal in question is cheetah. Scientific name is Acinonyx jubatus.

At one time there were 8 subspecies. Now zoologist think there are two. If these tow subspecies can breed and produce viable young then there is truly one species. The term subspecies is being used less and less, it does not truly describe animals. The difference seen in cheetah from one location to the next are minor. Genetically they are all the same.
Reply:In the past they have been called hunting leopards, because people used them as a hunting animal, particularly in Asia. They're called "duma" in Swahili. An old spelling is "cheeta". They were called guepard in France, gepard in Germany, and onza in Spain. Current Spanish is "guepardo".
